Travel: Nairobi, Kenya – Day 27

From start to finish, this beauty school project has been an adventure!! The first week I was here. I was able to go into the homes of the girls I would teach. I saw the way they lived and met their children. It was clear that God chose each if these women to be a part of this course. Each of them have had unfortunate circumstances through their lives that have lead them to this point.

In the past month, I have seen their out look go from sadness to hope and I am so excited to see what happens over the course of the next six months as they continue with their schooling. Mary’s hope is that this program will be able to sustain itself. The only way of making that happen is by having a permanent instructor here in Kenya to run the beauty school. Many came highly recommended for this position, but that standout candidate was Teacher Ann. She is an incredible hair stylist, an educated woman, and is the product of child sponsorship. She understands all that the students go through on a daily basis and has shown to be a wonderful mentor. We all trust Teacher Ann to lead these women through this course to success.

The construction of the school has been no different. Watching the dirt being dug to lay the foundation to the cement being poured to the plumbing to the tile to the electricity to the stations and all furniture and finally the ladies all being able to see the hard work that was done for them has been an overwhelming experience to be a part of. I am humbled by the support given by so many to make this happen. Mary and Wallace Kamau have had this dream for 5 years now and they are finally able to see it take flight. Because of their vision, their partnership with Crossroads Church, and support of so many, 13 women now have the chance at a successful career and a brighter future for their families. And this I only the beginning…..
